Welcome to ENCA Hellas
The Greek Network for the Respect to Childbirth - ENCA Hellas was founded to win again the obvious: the respect for pregnancy and childbirth, the protection of natural birth, the promotion of breastfeeding, the right of the family to choose to experience pregnancy and motherhood as a natural process and not as an “illness” that has to be treated medically.
Activities of ENCA Hellas
ENCA Hellas aims at networking, raising awareness and calling into action citizens, organizations and agencies, in any area of expression of respect to childbirth. It is concerned with issues that relate to the promotion of natural birth, empowering women, breastfeeding and the improvement of perinatal health in the Greek area. More specifically, it offers:
ENCA Hellas, following the model of the European Network, is based solely on volunteer work offered by its members. Participation in the ENCA Hellas network is open to anyone interested, with no commitment or economic contribution.However, there are some expenses that are covered each time by donations and actions of the members of the group; the main expense is the representation of Greece in the European conference of ENCA, which is carried out each year in a different member-country and includes travel expenses, accommodation, board, expenses for the organizing of the conference etc. Smaller sums are need to cover current expenses (web page, print outs etc).
- A network through which agencies and individuals that are involved in the support of mothers and perinatal care in Greece cooperate, join their forces, skills and talents, so that positive changes can be effected.
- Dissemination of knowledge and of the actions that support and empower women
- Access to the files of the European Network of Childbirth Associations and to organizations that are connected to it, utilization of their material, publications, activities, campaigns.
- Active participation in forums, exchange of ideas, use of tried strategies from other countries for the improvement of perinatal care in our country
- An opportunity to act and exchange knowledge and experiences at a European level and with a European scope
- Consultation for policy changes, proposed legislation and laws, with the intervention of other European countries which offer functional models of care of the pregant woman and the fetus.
- European support, contact with other European countries, with the possibility of further education or practical training for persons who are involved in perinatal care
